Dr. Ramdas M.Pai is the President and Chancellor of Manipal University and the president of Manipal Education and medical group.
He is a medical graduate, and postgraduate in Hospital Administration from Temple University, Philadelphia, USA. His commitment to excellence, vision and organizing ability, as well as perseverance and dedicated work played a decisive role in developing various institutions of education and health

The crowning glory for Dr. Ramdas M. Pai in his efforts to build centers of excellence was getting the Deemed University status in 1993. Dr. Pai is a strong advocate of Public-Private partnership in higher education and healthcare and has been articulating a vision for the future of India in which higher education, which builds up the nation's Intellectual capital, plays a vital role with the government transforming into a facilitator and catalyst rather than a mere regulator promoting the cause of higher education, improving access and upgrading standards.

He received a number of awards and honors in recognition to his community service, among which we can mention: Intellectuals Honor - The great Son of the Soil award by All India Conference for Intellectuals in 1997; Award in Philanthropy by Bunts' Sangha, Bombay, 1992; Award by World Konkani Convention, 1995; Chanakya Award 2008 - National awards for achievers by Public Relations Council of India.
